What Causes Blood In Mucus Of A Lung Cancer Patient?
Question: I was diagnosed with lung cancer 6 weeks ago. Unfortunately it had spread to my brain. After they did a bronchoscopie I contracted pneumonia and have been on a antibiotics ever since. I thought I was just about clear of the pneumonia but today i coughed up a little bit of blood in the mucus. Should I be worried about this.
Brief Answer:
You are having hemoptysis.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Blood in sputum is known as hemoptysis.
And it is seen commonly with lung infection (pneumonia), tuberculosis and lung cancer.
Since you are diagnosed case of lung cancer and recent history of pneumonia, cause for your hemoptysis can be due to either pneumonia or cancer.
So you can wait for 1-2 days and if hemoptysis is worsening then get done chest x ray to rule out worsening of pneumonia or lung cancer.
So consult pulmonologist and discuss all these.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
