What Causes Blood In Stool When Diagnosed With Hemorrhoids?

Question: Hello,
I'm 36 years old.
I have hemorrhoids. A few weeks ago I had an acute bleeding and that day I've performed an occult blood test that came back positive. The bleeding has stopped and I had a second test which came back negative.
Today I had a diarrhea and I tested my stool with urine dipstick and it tested positive. I've visited minute clinic, had an occult blood in stool test which was negative.
Can urine dipstick be a reliable test for occult blood in stool? How should I follow up?
TIA

Hi and thank you for asking!
I readcarefully all your concerns and Ican say as follows:
1. You have hemorroides and this is enough having fecal blood occult test.
2. There is no problem if you have used urine dipstik to prive fecal blood.
Otherwise I would like to explaun you that fecal blood test at your condtition is not an early sign of large bowel tumor because it is posistivie due to anal lacerations or hemorroids.
3. with regards to follow uo therr is no need to repeat fecal blood test but I would reccomend to do colonoscopy to better evaluate large bowel.
Meantime I would suggest to :
- take olenty of water
- use preparation H for hemorroids
Hope it was helpful to you.

Hello Doctor,
I appreciate your clear and detailed response. If the cause of the bleeding has been identified (hemorrhoids) why should I perform colonoscopy?
Thank you!

HI back
Hemorrhoids are most probable cause of your bleeding.
Colonoscopy will help us to better determine the grade of hemorrhoids and to identify if there is any other cause of your bleeding like polyps for example.
hope it was helpful to you.
