What Causes Blood In Stool?
Question: I am a 28 year old guy. Had some bright red blood in toilet a few times. Went to the gastro. He checked and said he saw no signs of hemroids or of blood in the stool. That was 4 months ago. This morning I had a little bit of bright red blood in toilet when I went. Should I go back to the doctor? I don't smoke and am mostly vegetarian. YYYY@YYYY

Bright red blood which appears on stool surface or toilet paper is caused by hemorrhoids. This condition very often can not be detected by rectal examination. Try to imagine that hemorrhoids are enlarged veins. This veins get collapsed when you put pressure on them. Now when you place a finger into a rectum (during physical examination), hemorrhoids collapse so can not be palpated. That is why gastrologist could not find hemorrhoids. But this does not mean you do not have them.
As long as blood is not mixed with stool, no mucus, weight loss, abdominal pain, bloating, no reason to be concerned.
And no reason to rush to a doctor.
Please try to follow this simple steps:
- start probiotic and fiber intake
- do not push hard on stool
- wash your rectum after every stool
- have sitz baths with Oak Bark twice a day for a week
