What Causes Blood In Stools?

Question: I have had bright red blood w my stool twice. No other symptoms. Should I be concerned? I have had occasional light streaks from wiping in the past, not frequently and not recently.
Brief Answer:
?hemorroids?
Detailed Answer:
Hi Mr xxxxx,
welcome to HCM.
Your symptom of occasional streak of blood mixed with stool is a common one and is suggestive of evolving hemorroids. If you also feel pain or tenesmus, a fissure in ano needs to be ruled out.
You need not worry in either case. Taking high fiber diet, avoiding constipation by adding a small dose of laxative at night generally will be sufficient.
If these simple techniques do not help your symptoms or if bleeding is showing a rising tendency or any onset of systemic symptoms like loss of weight should warrant a surgical consultation to rule out more serious causes.
Hope i am clear.
