What Causes Body Chills Followed By Nausea And Vomiting While Sleeping?

default
Posted on Wed, 5 Aug 2015
Question: Sometimes when I sleep I wake freezing. I go into what looks like a seizure but am aware this lasts a few mins. The freezing lasts 15-an hour. My husband turns up the heat and piles blankets on me. My teeth chatter and the pain is unbearable. My bones especially in my legs feel as though they are breaking slowly. At the end I feel nauseous and sometimes throw up. I fall asleep wake sweaty and sore and weak for a day. I usually have two episodes back to back and then a break of at least a month or more. Weather or menstral cycle doesn't matter. Help.

Brief Answer:
Most likely seizures

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms, they are most probably due to complex partial seizures. Consciousness may or may not be lost, however, minor alteration in the consciousness level is usually noted.

EEG (electroencephalography) and MRI brain epilepsy protocol should be done for further evaluation.

Medications such as oxcarbazepine would help in preventing these episodes in the future. Consult your neurologist and get yourself evaluated.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,

Is it normal to have these episodes only when I have been sleeping? If left uuntreated will they progress to wake times?

Brief Answer:
May occur in wake times also.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

These episodes may occur in wake time also. However, the chances of that happening is low. This is because certain seizures most commonly occur during sleep.

Best wishes,
