What Causes Boil Right Below Tail Bone?

default
Posted on Wed, 8 Oct 2014
Question: Okay, I have a little bump or boil under my skin, right below my tail bone. Not in my butt crack, but above it. And it's sore sometimes and bruised looking and discolored (just redness) not a rash though, with a skin cavity under it. I'm almost positive it's a pilonidal cyst. Should I see a doctor? I have done my research and some say it's bad, and to get it surgically removed, and some say it's fine and I can live with it. What do I do? Why do I have it? I'm a 19 year old female, 5'2 127 lbs, and active, as I have to be seeing as how I'm a waitress. I just don't know what to do.

I've had it for like two years, XXXXXXX It's never given me a problem until now, that's why I never worried about it. And no, I'm not exactly hairy down there. I guess you could say at most, I have the common "peach fuzz"

Brief Answer:
It is definitely Pilonidal Sinus

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms

Thanks for providing me the clinical photograph. It is surely Pilonidal Sinus. There is a small opening seen too. The surrounding looks inflamed likely to be abscess formation.

I would suggest you to consult Surgeon for further management.
In the meantime I would advise you the following which will decrease your symptoms

1. Hot Seitz Bath: To a tub of lukewarm water add 2 spoons of antiseptic solution like Dettol/Savlon. Sit in it immersing your bottom for 15-2o minutes each session twice a day. Let the water be as hot as much as you can tolerate it.
It will reduce the congestion and discomfort

2. Analgesic Like Ibuprofen will be helpful

3. Antibiotics: Augmentin taken for 5 days all be helpful

Do keep me updated.
Wishing you great health

Best Regards'
Deepak
