What Causes Breathing Problems Post A Subsegmental Collapse In Lungs?
I had a follow up CT scan today which still showed sub segmental collapse in my lung.
I am not having problems breathing and have been doing breathing exercises to keep my lungs open.
I was wondering if this is normal and how long will this take to resolve?

Hi,
I am Dr Mittal.
I have read your message. I think I can help you. The fact remains that in the case of sub segmental collapse cases are known where the segment may never open. It depends on the extent of damage to the lung by the time the air passages are functional again.
However, since it is a very small area it usually doesn't cause symptoms since the rest of the lung compensates it.
Rib fracture takes 2 to 3 months to heal depending on the age and other factors.
To open the lung you need to talk to a local pulmonologist and show the CT scan. Possibility of NIV or non invasive ventilation may help.
I have tried to make it as simple as possible. I hope that the information contained in this message will be able to help you find the best solution for your problem. Best of luck. Dr Mittal.
