How Long Does Rib Fracture Take Time To Heal?

Have had fractured ribs for 5 months now. Dr. Said it could take up to a year to heal. So far I am wearing a TENS unit, have a pain cream, going to physical therapy, seeing a pain psychologist, taking neurontin, and have had a intercostal nerve block. Nothing is helping. My ribs pop, I have a reoccurring small bruise and multiple places that pop and a knot that moves up and down. Am I going to have this pain for an entire year? Osteoporosis-no Age47 Multiple fractures in past year that have not healed Otherwise healthy Also, so much pain I have Ost 40 pounds in last 3 months, now weight 140

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Usually, the rib fracture needs fro three to five months to heal.

During this period it is necessary to use anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen for the pain.

It is also recommended to maintain the area immobilized to prevent further damage.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi, General &Family Physician
