What Causes Burning Sensation In Shoulder And Right Upper Abdominal Area?
Question: This a continuation of my last query. My bookwork was normal. My abdominal ultrasound only showed a fatty liver. I am still having severe burning pain in my right shoulder and my right upper abdomen. I have been taking Tylenol with codeine with minimal relief. I have gerd and a history of gastritis and gastro paresis. I take zegrid for this and it's not helping. Could a peptic ulcer cause pain in this area and not show up on a ultrasound? I've never heard of a ulcer causing pain in this area. Could it be postcholcystectomy syndrome, intrascapular neuritis? I have idiopathic polyneuropathy for 18years with many arm surgeries, carpal, ulnar and radial tunnel. Maybe I should get a nerve block in the shoulder as I can't take the pain. It feels like I have a lit cigarette on my shoulder and acid being dripped on my right side. It is worse after eating. Slipping disc syndrome? It has to be something. I usually have a high tolerance for pain. Could an upper endoscopy or ercp show anything? I can't lay on my back. Even using my arm hurts. I really hoped the dx would be simple but it isn't turning out this way. I feel I'm in for a long haul. Because my tests are negative I won't be seeing a gi soon. I'll be at the bottom of the list. Should I just give up?
Brief Answer:
Don't despair, a systematic approach will reveal
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome back to HCM .
Please don't despair.
There are pains at two different sites. If they occur simultaneously, they can be due to the same cause. If not, they are likely to be from two different causes.
The abdominal pain is likely to be from the GI tract , more so if related to food. Ultrasound is unlikely to show a peptic ulcer, it is diagnosed at endoscopy.
The right shoulder pain is likely to be from a radiculopathy if you have cervical spodylosis. An X ray of the cervical spine would be helpful in deciding whether an MRI is required.
Take care
