Question: I am male 40 years exercise regularly in Gym but heavy body around 105 kgs still has lot of stomach. Since 2 to 3 days after eating lunch I feel burning sensation in stomach, chest burn and bloating and occasional stomach cramps. I do sleep after having food particularly lunch.

It is sort of discomfort that as XXXXXXX I cannot take spicy food which is part of our diet. Last time the same thing happened lasted for 4 to 5 days and doctor said it is normal in working professionals particularly in the Gulf Middle East expats have these sort of stomach problem. He gave me 20 mg rabizole daily before food once for 4 weeks and that was o.k.

Now I have the same problem again and feeling sort of discomfort but can do my daily work not sever pain or anything.

Is this any serious issue or related to lifestyle or food habits?

Please advise Doctor.

Brief Answer:
You are having GERD & dyspepsia

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.
You are having GERD and dyspeptic symptoms.
GERD is a condition in which the stomach contents go up in to the food pipe causing symptoms like heartburn, chest discomfort etc.
The dyspeptic symptoms could be due to ulcer disease, indigestion, poor functioning of stomach etc.
You can continue taking rabiprazole for 8-12 weeks.
Lifestyle changes are more important to prevent recurrence of symptoms.
The following are some of the lifestyle/dietary changes that need to be followed.

1. Avoid alcohol/smoking ( if you have these habits)
2. Weight reduction
3. Avoid coffee, citrus, mint, chocolate, fatty/spicy food
4. Avoid eating large meals and instead eat multiple smaller frequent meals
5. Go to bed at least 2-3 hours after food

Also check your blood glucose level.
You need not worry. This is not a serious issue.

I hope that answers your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr.R.K.
