What Causes Burning Sensation In Upper Right Leg While Brisk Walking?

default
Posted on Mon, 31 Aug 2015
Question: When I walk for 45 minutes or more at a good pace the skin on my upper right leg starts to hurt with a burning sensation. Often painful enough that I need to stop for a bit or limp. What is the cause of this issue? Thanks

Brief Answer:
Needs Work up, Likely pinched nerve. Skin symptoms due to referred pain.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. With pain on upper thigh feeling like skin involved and burning sensation needs a little correlation clinically. if there is no significant color change in the skin or swelling in the area of the skin then it is not skin but a referred pain of the nerves which could likely be compressed or pinched and age of66 makes it more likely to be a compressive neuropathy rather than a burning skin . Had it been the skin it would not have been just after walking or exercise and would not have caused you to limp for sure.

I want you to rest for a while, take some muscle relaxant like skelaxin and some Ibuprofen. Do some stretching of your back and legs and thighs and lie flat on surfaces for a few days. If these help good. Otherwise you will need to get evaluated for back spine lumbar and sacral area to rule out any nerve compression there and downwards. MRI may be needed.

Meanwhile go easy on yourself, walk at a pace you are comfortable with. maintain a good posture and talk to your doctor if the symptoms persist. Age related articular degeneration of the discs are very common at your age and needs to be ruled out as compressive factor for your nerves.

I hope it helps. take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Khan
