Question: I am an unmarried young man of 29 years of age. I was detected Hypothyroidism in November 2015. I was given one 25mg and one 12,5mg every morning. On test in December my system was normal but the Doctor had advised to continue as my mom is having Thyroid problem. I am transferred to XXXXXXX from XXXXXXX in April, 2016 and have been continuing the medicine till date. For last three days I am having a burning sensation while eating anything. What to do? Please advise me.

Brief Answer:
Life style changes & Doctor's advise would help.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for the query through Health care magic. I have read & understood your problem.
* The treatment with suitable dose of synthetic thyroid hormone is mostly continued lifelong... because it is just hormone replacement , which is essential for healthy life.Only thing is you should go for yearly thyroid tests & cross check with your endocrinologist about dosage.
* Now about burning you get while eating. I see two possible causes in your case-
1.As you have been transferred from XXXXXXX to XXXXXXX .. the life style changes & change in food pattern ( which is obviously more spicy & hot) can cause irritation of stomach inner lining , which gets irritated with eating food & leads to burning in upper part of stomach( Gastritis)/ GERD.. where acidic stomach regurgitates in esophagus to cause burning.
2.It's good you have stopped smoking. Allergy to smoke can lead to dry cough & also disturb normal bacterial flora in mouth. This leads to sensitization of oral mucosa/reddening of mouth or ulcers on tongue ,which gets irritated & burns on eating.
Alternatively changed food habits/ home sickness with psychological stress can lead to constipation causing same symptoms.
* Some simple life style changes along with few medicines with your doctor's advise would remove the bothering problem you have.
-stop eating food with spices... eat bland food/ cold food . Eat small multiple servings Eat sufficient fibers ( salads , vegetables& fruits ) & drink lot of water.cold milk helps in managing stomach burning.
- Avoid alcohol / smoking/ Tea, coffee,aerated drinks. .
- Avoid starving.
- Having good bowel movements is important.
- Maintain good oral hygiene./ apply Boroglycerine to tongue if there are ulcers or reddening .
- Avoid psychological stress, Be positive
* Doctors advise- Consult a physician for physical examination, few investigations if needed followed by cause specific medications to aid healing( like antacids , Proton pump inhibitors, stool softener, B complex or lacto bacillus-probiotic preparation ).
Thus you can overcome the difficulty very well with your own efforts & doctors help. Hope the answer proves to be informative & useful to you.Any follow up query is welcome.
