Hello,
Thanks for using healthcaremagic. Bursa is collection of fluid near joint for shock absorber. Bursitis is due to repeated friction which causes increase in fluid volume. This leads to pain and swelling. It also causes restriction of movement. It can happen at various joint. You have not mentioned where are you having pain? But it involves knee, shoulder, elbow or hip.
Treatment is rest, hot water fomentation,NSAID and aspiration of fluid with steroid injection. Some time when drugs does not causes relief then you might need surgery to take care of this.

Thank you for your answer, I did not mention the elbow is my problem. I am disabled and the right arm is the arm I use for my walking cane. I have needed to use a cane for about the past 5 or 6 years. Also my right elbow is what I lean on when walking around my home and not using my cane. So, you would recommend that I see an Orthapedic doctor , is that correct

yes, you need to visit orthopaedic doctor and if this problem is persisting since more than 6 years than it is better to get it excised by surgery.It is small surgery and you will be back home in one day.
