Red, Extremely Painful Large Swelling In Elbow. Medication?
Hi - my sister - in - law is in China and her friend has a golf - ball sized swelling on her elbow, reddened and extremely painful. She does not know what she scratched it on but noticed a scratch two days ago which has gotten progressively worse. Due to the language barrier they say they can"t get to a clinic or hospital but can walk into a pharmacy close to their hotel and get any antibiotic they want. Can you tell me what her friend should be taking for this, if anything, and the proper dosage?
Hi ! Most likely she has got a cyst (olecranon bursa) on her elbow which must have been there for a long, but now it got infected due to scratching resulting in pain and discomfort. It might be an independent entity, a boil, which has become worse with scratching. I would suggest you to her seen by a surgeon there before you jump into self treatment with antibiotics. Wishing your friend an early recovery.
