What Causes Chest Pain And Belching With History Of Large Para Esophageal Hernia?

Question: Back several years ago I was told I had a large Para Esophageal hernia. Now I am experiencing chest pain, thought to be heart attack. Nausea, gas and belching. Been told because of all my prior stomach surgeries can only have it repairs through the left chest (open). A Gastroenterologist wants to do a scope to see if something else is going on, then referral to a Thoracic surgeon. Can't do a scope until 3/31/15. Need to know if I should wait, and if they have to do open surgery or a VATS approached.
Brief Answer:
I think you can wait till 31st

No issues that I know of, for waiting until March 31st. other then prolonging and waiting more for the surgical referral.
The symptoms have been constant since XXXXXXX 21, 2015
Health in General good. Dx. with type II on XXXXXXX 22, 2015
No idea on a surgery date, haven't even talked one, recently.
Don't get reflux, or vomiting just some dry cough and dry heaves; haven't vomited since the original Fundoplication.

Hello,
Thanks a heap for writing back,
I have read your detailed and beautifully organized history.
It was really informative and let me organize a strategy for you.
In my opinion you can wait till 31st of march, 20 odd days won't cause a bid deal of difference, I doubt that the mentioned gastro doctor would find any other beneficial option but surgery , still I think you should let him make a complete check up may be he can come up with some option.
You asked about approach of surgery , well this depends upon the operating surgeon what he thinks is best for his patient, it will also depend upon your latest labs and endoscopy, as far as i can guess by your history and description, Your surgeon will probably prefer going with VATS unless he isn't forced by something to go radical.
I would suggest you to consider and discuss all you options with doctor and then go for the best thought option , you have been through much all these years and I apretiate you kept on following this problem with courage ,
now I would ask you not to take any chances go for final best option even if you are scared of it but if your surgeon thinks it's good take the leap of faith :)
Stay blessed , wish you the best of luck..!!
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
