What Causes Choroiditis?
Need Reassessment for further Management
Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for contacting Ayurveda with your health concern and I would like to know few questions before going to the management/treatment aspect:
1. do let me know the AGE of your husband?
PS. since the disease affects healthy young patients in third decade [average:34 years]
2. Is their bilateral [both] or unilateral [single] involvement?
PS. studies says there are 80% chances of involvement of both eyes
3. Type of choroiditis diagnosed?
PS. although treatment remains same in all types but one can have idea whether disease is:
. Autoimmune [reason of giving steroids]
. Inflammatory
. Secondary to some Disease. [systemic examination is essential to look for underlying disease causing the same [if any], in XXXXXXX one has to rule out Tuberculosis and autoimmune conditions and if they are not the reason it should be treated by an Ophthalmologist as it can cause serious visual problems. [preferably Retina specialist]
. Any other associated condition, like diabetes and/or high blood pressure [since use of steroids can increase blood sugar and elevate blood pressure]
4. Any associated symptoms like: photophobia, eye pain, floaters, blurred vision?PS. Was fundus examination carried [if yes] what were the findings
5. Recent study/research suggest low level of Vitamin D3 [check with blood value] and omega 3 to be one of the prevalent cause of choroiditis. [daily need:1-2 gm/day]
6. Do revert back with above questionnaire for further necessary Prevention.
. Take lots of anti oxidant, i.e. Vitamin E which helps to stimulate antibody production: peanuts, dried apricots, cooked spinach, taro root can be taken
. Do let me know about Vitamin D3 level so that if there is deficiency, diet can be prescribed.
. one can get omega from fish, fish oil,canola/hemp oil, eggs,
PS. butter made from the milk of grass-fed cows contains substantially more vitamin E, beta-carotene, and omega-3 fatty acids [you can find one milkman]

Opinion necessary to prevent vision at early AGE
Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for reverting back.
1. Since age is 28 thus initial management will involve opinion of Retina specialist since choroidal neovascularization tends to happen [subretinal hemorrhage/ subretinal fluid [edema]
PS. It is for this reason that steroids are used: because of
i. the development of choroidal neovascular membranes [since steroids acts as immuno supressive thus decrease the chances of regrowth of the membrane] and/or cystoid macular edema.
2. At his age and having inflammatory choroiditis one has to consider infectious choroiditis as one of the cause of the same, for which:
i. specific test for syphilis: FTA-ABS or MHA-TP test should be performed
ii. A chorio retinal biopsy may be performed.
iii. At his age ask your Ophthalmologist Doctor [as routine] to look specifically for inflammatory conditions like: ocular herpes, arthritis,Ankylosing spondylitis,CMV retinits,Sarcoidosis and other exhaustive list.
3. since this happened last year around, were steroids prescribed at that time also, since being immunosuppressant they can make people vulnerable to disease [due to weak immunity]
4. Management in Ayurveda consists XXXXXXX XXXXXXX Kalpa:
i. reducing the inflammation in the eye. [pitta pacifying procedures]
ii.to reverse the damage done to the eye, [Lepa, Takra dhara]
iii. medicine(s) with soothing effect as well as providing nourishment to the damaged parts [Netra dhara]
iv. vasa patra juice and amla juice: each 25 ml twice daily helps in healing the disease.
v. ghee which is put in copper vessel for 1 month should be mixed with saindhav lavan and to be used as corrylium [anjan]
PS. Recent studies have suggested infection with Helicobacter pylori in digestive system related with the disease, kindly rule the possibility.
