Posted on Thu, 2 Jun 2016
Question: Bleeding after 4 years with Mirena, SAH 6 months ago and high BP...
Any relation to the above? Now constant light bleeding (both new and old blood), high BP diagnosed when taken to ER for SAH, recovered 10 days in neuro-ICU. Lower abdominal cramps, back pain. Wanting to remove Mirena, but gyno thought heavy periods that were present before would return and dismissed removing it. 49 yo, tests show not menoposal yet.

Brief Answer:
Mirena should be removed

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
SAH and high blood pressure are not due to Mirena.
However, continuous spotting, backache and lower abdomen cramps are due to Mirena.
In my opinion, Mirena should be removed if it is causing such discomfort.
If the heavy bleeding returns, then you can go for medical treatment or hysterectomy, if not treated medically.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
