What Causes Constant Buzzing Sensation In Both Ears?

default
Posted on Wed, 8 Feb 2017
Question: I have constant buzzing in both ears. I do have a tendency towards wax build up in my ears. I have taken Excedrin/asprin every day for 50 years. I do believe I have some hearing loss especially in the high pitches. I am 71 years old in good medical health with the use of medications for testosterone supplement, blood pressure, cholesterol, gout, frequency of urination. I did have melanoma in 2 spots simultaneously and both were caught very early and removed 8 years ago. I have had a knee replacement. The buzzing is not debilitating.

Can you recommend a medication I could take to hopefully reduce/eliminate the buazzing?

Brief Answer:
Should identify the cause first...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concern.

The constant buzzing in both your ears is referred to tinnitus or ringing ears in medical terms.

I need to know:
- when did you start to hear the buzzing? was it before the meds you take for your chronic illness?
- you say to take meds for blood pressure. Have you monitored your bp? Spikes in BP can cause buzzing.
- have you checked your ears by ENT specialist. Apart wax, I am worried about the otosclerosis or arthritis or inner ear bones that are also giving buzzing in ears.
Audiogram is also recommended to understand if you have really loss your hearing.
- Anemia is also to rule out through complete blood count
- Electrolytes imbalance due to increased urination is also to consider in your case.

So, in other words, we should identify what is causing buzzing in ears, then, treat it adequately.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have further queries.
