Question: Hi

I have had following tests 6 months

My GP said it could be a nerve or anxiety
He gave me Propranolol for anxiety that I started off having 1 a day now its every 2-3 days i have a tablet.

This problem is been going on for 6-9 months.

I am asking a specialist to get to bottom and advice.

Brief Answer:
You need to rule out neurological causes.

Detailed Answer:
Hello! Thank you for asking on HCM!
I passed carefully through your medical history. Regarding your concerns, facing your symptoms nature and the already performed tests, I would conclude that they are not related to any cardiac disorders at all. From the other hand I would recommend you to redirect your attention on the neurological domain. It seems twitching on your left chest adjacent to your shoulder may be a myclonus or fasciculations. These symptoms may be related to stress, straining physical activity, caffeine. But they also may be related to central nervous system disorders like multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or a spinal cord problem. I would recommend to consult with a neurologist, have a careful neurological examination. You may need other tests like brain MRI and EMG, also EEG to rule out these neurological causes.

Brief Answer:
Your symptoms are definitely not heart related!

Detailed Answer:
Hello again! As it happened that I am a cardiologist taking care of critically ill cardiac patients in my daily practice, after facing your clinical scenario and have noticed your recent weeks complains, I am pretty sure they have nothing to do with your young heart. Heart doesn't cause transitory twitching of any specific body areas. Your prior medical check ups (physical exams, ECGs, chest X ray, blood tests, etc) confirm the above. You may keep doing additional tests too, but I assure you, the conclusion will be the same: your heart is not responsible for that twitching. Keep in mind that twitching is a parietal thoracic localised symptom, nothing to do with your heart. So relax about a possible cardiac issue.

As I mentioned before you have to check any possible neurological involvements. Consult a neurologist and perform a scheduled work up.

My Best Regards! Dr. Iliri

Thank you for a great answer and reassuring
I am a big worrier regarding heart

I left sports thinking if i over work my heart it might send me to cardiac arrest. Can i ask a question would a chest Xray or ECG like show up if i have a enlarged heart or heart muscles?

When i play sport or any excersise my heart just beats hard and rapid and i feel like i will pass out when i rest and calm down i be perfect. Doctors and others say its anxiety.

Brief Answer:
A cardiac ultrasound would relief your anxiety.

Detailed Answer:
Hi! My answer is: Yes! An ECG and better chest X ray may help us to judge about an existing cardiomyopathy; but a cardiac ultrasound would be the best option to rule out an enlarged heart. But, it doesn't seem to be your case. You don't have symptoms compatible with a cardiomyopathy.

Rapid and hard heart beating is a normal physiological response to physical stress. Theoretical maximal heart rate during physical exertion may reach 220 - your age. So, nothing to worry about your heart racing. You may resume sports activity and do competitive sports proportional to your personal physical endurance.

Greetings!
