Brief Answer:
meniscus tear

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You have been experiencing a locking in your knee that is painful. The locking is usually due to a tear in the meniscus of the knee. This is the cartilage that the knee rides on. If there is a tear then the upper bone pops into the tear and causes the locking. I would recommend that you see your medical provider and have them test your knee for a meniscus tear. If it found then you may need surgery to trim off the torn portion. This is done with scopes and does not require any overnight stay at the hospital. '

While waiting you can use ibuprofen or naprosyn over the counter to reduce your pain
