What Causes Cough And Cold In A Child?
My kid is 11 months old. He is having cold for the last 5 days. We checked with paediatrician 3 days back. He said it's common cold and it will go away. He advised steam inhalation and gave nasal drops and asked to use if his nose is blocked. From yesterday he started coughing. Is it normal? Is any medication necessary?
Anti allergic with some bronchodilator (to prevent airway spasm)will help
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for choosing this platform
Most common cause of cough and cold in this age is some viral infection. There may be associated allergic component.
Cough and cold usually gets better with nasal drops and combination of anti allergic with some bronchodilator(which prevents airway spasm).
Anti allergic like chlorpheniramine with bronchodilator like levosalbutamol may be given after consulting a pediatrician.Symptoms usually improve within 3-4 days with these medications.Continue giving nasal drops.
I won't get overly worried if baby is active, accepting feeds well and there is no breathing difficulty.
I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more query.
