Question: I've had what I think is a sinus infection for a week. Cough will not go away. Phlegm is dark and semi hard. Seems to be in my chest now. Can't get much up. What does come has smattering of blood I it. Taking Alavert D and a Fluticasone Propionate spray. Doesn't seem to be going away.

Brief Answer:
Sinusitis, needs evaluation.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having blood tinged phlegm. I would like to ask you few more details.

Is there any nasal obstruction ?
Is your cough associated with post nasal drip( sinus secretions dripping back into throat) ?

As per your clinical details, it appears to be sinusitis causing lung infection.

I suggest you to consult ent surgeon, get details ent examination, nasal endoscopy ( deviated septum, pus at sinus openings). Depending on the examination reports further treatment is required accordingly.

Mean time, do steam inhalation( for clearing of secretions).

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
