What Causes Darkening And Wrikling Of The Areola?

Question: Much of my right areola has darkened slightly and wrinkled, almost like a pucker. This has be going on for about four months. My mammogram five months ago showed no cancer, and though both breasts are the same size, and there is NO discharge, this darkened wrinkled areola concerns me. What is it?

Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
With a normal mammogram, no palpable lump and no discharge or pain, I see no cause for concern.
Sometimes colour changes and wrinkling maybe age related.
However, as your gynec said you need to see a general surgeon, please do that.
A clinical examination by a doctor is always more indepth, and if necessary, repeat imaging can be done.
Also, if possible , please upload pictures that would show the area, so that I can also offer an opinion.
