What Causes Delayed Menstruation And Lower Back Pain?

default
Posted on Mon, 19 Oct 2015
Question: My period is late by a little over two weeks now, I have taken multiple pregnancy tests, but they were all negative. I have also noticed that my urine has been cloudy and is very yellow even though i've been drinking plenty of water. For a few days, I had some lower back pain which I thought maybe was my kidneys. Today the pain is pretty much nonexistent. Yesterday, I felt like my thirst couldn't be quenched, however today was not like that.
I have no idea why I haven't gotten my period, or why any of these things have been happening, or why the back pain and being thirsty stopped. I was thinking maybe I haven't gotten my period because I started a new job where I am around a lot of women. Also I stopped taking birth control a few months ago in April, so I thought maybe that could be why my period is late. I was on a 3 month birth control since I was 16 so about 4 years, so I only had a period every 3 months since then. I don't know if that matters.

I'm 5'2" and weigh 118.
I think my periods have been regular for the most part. Last month, it started on the 8th, and in July it started on the 6th. In july it lasted for 8 days I'm pretty sure, and last month it wasn't as long.
Thank you

Brief Answer:
Dont worry about an occasional missed period.

Detailed Answer:
Okay, periods are affected by various simple factors at times.
Stress, anxiety, tensions, late nights, erratic eating habits, a new job, travelling, hormones, weight changes, unaccustomed exercise - all these can lead to menstrual irregularities.
ONce in a while, it is fine.
If the cycles become very erratic and unpredictable, you should see a Specialist OB - GYN, and have an internal evaluation, Pap smear, pelvic ultrasound scan, and hormonal levels ( FSH, LH, TSH, Prolactin, OGTT, DHEAS, Free testosterone, Lipid profile ).
Take care, do not worry about an occasional delayed period as long as you are using some form of contraception, and the pregnancy test is negative.
Wish you good health always !
