Brief Answer:
Abnormal movements or change in the anatomy of the vocal cords

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query

Production of sound depends upon the movements of the vocal cords. If there is any abnormal movement or change in the normal anatomy of the cords - variation or difficulty in production of speech is noticed.

With the brief history you have given, I do understand that, the problem could be in apposition of the vocal cords. Considering your age and the symptoms, the commonest causes include nerve weakness, psychological, trauma, vascular disorders, etc.

You would require a complete examination of the larynx, to identify any anatomical abnormalities. Stroboscopy (to assess the movements of the true cords) with or without MRI of the neck, may be required to rule out motion defects and space occupying lesions.

I would suggest you to consult a good phono-surgeon who can help you with this problem.

Hope I have answered your query; I will be available for the follow-up queries.
