What Causes Discomfort And Pain In Testicular Area?

default
Posted on Fri, 9 Jan 2015
Question: I have had a pain that has been reoccurring throughout the day, four or five times, in the sperm tube of my left testicle. It just lasts a few seconds then fades again. I do not have any insurance, so I am trying to avoid going to a doctor unless it is very serious.

Brief Answer:
Probably varicocele.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Welcome to HealthcareMagic.
Thanks for posting to us.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern.

Vague pain/discomfort in the testicular area, especially on the left side is usually caused by a condition called varicocele(caused by dilatation and tortuosity of venous channels that drains the testes). The pain increase with prolonged standing and decreases on lying down.
This is not a serious illness. But, if the pain is disturbing this can be treated with a simple surgical procedure under local anesthesia(venous ligation). Also, chronic varicocele can affect sperm quality.

Other less likely possibilities are a spermatocele or epididymal cyst.
These can be differentiated on clinical examination.

So, it will be fine if you can see a general surgeon for evaluation. You may also be asked for an USG doppler of the scrotal sac.

Hope this will answer your query.
Be free to ask further questions if any.
Wishing you good health.
Thank you.
