What Causes Discomfort In Throat While Coughing Or Drinking?
Needs a possible endoscopic evaluation.
Detailed Answer:
Hi! Good afternoon. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.
Discomfort while coughing or drinking could be due to some kind of obstruction either in the trachea or in the esophagus. However, no definite opinion could be arrived without a personal physical examination of the patient along with a detailed related investigations like an X ray chest PA view, an ENT evaluation by the ENT specialist, and a possible endoscopic evaluation of your GI tract if need be by a gastro enterologist. It might not be possible to announce a diagnosis without all these procedures.
Therefore, I would advise you to consult your family physician and go as per his advice after his clinical assessment.
I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.
Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. I wish you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
Thank you Dr. Shareef. I shall contact my internist Monday.
Wanted to add that I have no discomfort when running or doing vigorous weight training. I feel no lumps. I have no discomfort at any other time.
Just aware of a slight heaviness in sternum area.
Nice to know about your physical fitness.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX! Good evening. Nice to hear from you.
Apart from the investigations suggested earlier, commenting on the heaviness in the sternum area, I would not hesitate to suggest to your internist for a cardio vascular assessment of yours as a routine for your age group. It is nice to know that you are active and have not got any such problem as such. Still I do consider a routine cardiac check up a worthwhile investigation for you.
Thanks and good luck. Dr Shareef.
