What Causes Dizziness?

Could be Meniere's disease...
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for posting the query
I do understand the concern behind your father's medical problem. I will try my best to help you with this.
1. With the brief history mentioned by you, I do understand that your father could be suffering from endolymphatic hydrops (Meniere's disease). This typically affects the adults in their fourth or fifth decade of life.
2. It's a challenging task for the physicians to cure this problem because of the complex nature of the labyrinth and the electrolytes present in the different levels.
3. Cinnarizine or betahistine along with prochloroperazine will help in reducing the symptoms but not curing it.
4. As you have consulted various doctors, all the possible treatment modalities would have been tried on him. I don't think so we would be able to add anything more into this.
5. If symptoms are severe and do not respond to medical treatments, then surgical options can be thought of. To mention a few options:
a. Surgery to cut the vestibular nerve helps to control vertigo. It does not damage hearing.
b. Injecting steroids or an antibiotic called gentamicin directly into the middle ear can help control vertigo.
c. Removing part of the inner ear (labyrinthectomy) helps treat vertigo. This causes complete hearing loss.
Discuss all about this with your treating doctor.
Hope this piece of information would be useful to you. Revert back to me if you have any further queries.
