Many causes
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.
There can be many causes for dry cough like inhalation of dust or smoke, an allergy, infection, etc. One cause in particular can be gastro-esophageal reflux which causes throat irritation on lying down. In gastroesophageal reflux, stomach contents come up and irritate the throat. Does she have any such symptoms of acidity or reflux? If she has these symptoms then an antacid medicine will help most. Otherwise a cough suppressant like Cosome syrup, or ambroxol syrup can be taken if the cough is troublesome.
A complete blood count can be done to see if the blood cells are responding to something. It can help narrowing the diagnosis. Also a thyroid profile can be done.
Thus the treatment depends on finding the cause.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
