What Causes Dull Pain And Discomfort In Right Side Of Chest?

Question: Hello,
I'm 20 years old male. I've been experiencing some dull pain that does not hurt but it is uncomfortable on the right side of my chest. I also feel full after eating "smaller" portion of food than what I usually eat. Sometimes after I eat, I feel like there is food stuck in my throat/chest(more like the feeling of eating really fast and then waiting for food to go down) but it doesn't hurt as much, it's just uncomfortable. I went to the ER 2 days ago and they said my heart is good and they had an x-ray on my chest which was positive as well.

Brief Answer:
you have no heart problem
Detailed Answer:
hello XXXXXXX ,
I have gone through your query. You history is definitely not suggestive of heart disease. As you are feeling stuck food in throat and chest,it is possible that you may have reflux oesophagitis.you may take PPI group of medicine along with anti reflux medicine for about 2 weeks along with diet restriction.you must avoid smoking, avoid spicy food.If your symptoms continue you may have to go for furthr work up in the form of upper GI endoscopy.
i would be glad to guide further once you give me feed back,
My best wishes

I read that PPI medicine can cause some serious problems, is that true? Also, is what I'm feeling of discomfort in my chest heartburn? Is it possible to cure my GERD by just changing my lifestyle, will it just get better after awhile?
Brief Answer:
lifestyle changes will help on long run and prevent recurrence
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
I can understand your anxiety.I shall reply your question in order you asked.
1.No medicine (even food) is without side effects, but all doctors know about its possible side effects and not every one gets side effects.PPI have no serious side effects for short term use, many of my patients use for 6 months to 1 year!so don't worry to use it for few weeks.
2.Yes, your symptom may be heart burn.It is subjective complaint.
3.As far as like style goes yes ...you should take following measures.
A.Avoid heavy meals, take small frequent meals.
B.keep margin of 3 hours between your meal and sleep.
C.Avoid alcohol,smoking and spicy food.
D.Meditation and pranayam i.e. yoga will help,
This life style on regular basis will prevent acidity and reflux. But at present you should take medicine.
I would just like to know that in your first query you mentioned that X ray chest was positive.I presume that positive means Normal,
My best wishes

I had my first PPI today but I didn't feel any better in my chest, I still feel like a pointy pain in my right chest, does it usually take more than 1 day?
Brief Answer:
yes it may take 48 to 72 hours
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Yes it takes sometime say 48 to 72 hours before you feel better. Therefore please continue taking PPI.
But as you have right sided chest pain we need to consider other possibilities . I suggest you to get your ultrasound upper abdomen done to rule out any abnormality below diaphragm on right side
