What Causes Dull Pain In Rectum?

I am a 31 year old female. No major health problems. For the last 6 months or so, on and off I have been having dull rectal pain. (Higher up in the rectum) I have not had any other symptoms. (No rectal bleeding from what I have noticed, no change in bowel movements, etc.) The pain has come and gone, but the last few days has been a little more constant. Like I said the pain is more annoying than anything. It does not hurt worse with bowel movements either. One time during vaginal sexual intercourse it did cause some rectal pain for a moment. The pain is almost near my tailbone in the rectum. I have an appointment with a GI in 3 weeks but I am a worrier and keep worrying it could be cancer, as my grandfather on my mother's side died of colorectal cancer at the age of 51.
Thank you!
need some details to guide you better
Detailed Answer:
Hello
My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.
I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. I understand you concern and it's a good thing to take care of your health but you should not stress out and hope for the best. Although chances of cancer increases if there is family history but one should start from basic causes first. I would be in a better position to guide you if you answer following questions please:
1. Is there any change in your bowel movements?
2. Persistent abdominal discomfort, such as cramps, gas or pain?
3. any history of feeling that your bowel doesn't empty completely?
4. is there weight loss over past few months?
5. what is your race?
6. what is your normal daily diet?
7. what is your current weight & height?
8. do you smoke or drink alcohol?
9. any history of radiation therapy for any reason?
I will be looking forward for the answers to conclude the discussion in the best interest of yours.
Thank You

Thank you for your quick response. I have no history of persistent abdominal pain, cramps or gas. There has been no change in bowel movements. I have no history of my bowel not emptying completely to my knowledge. There has been no weight loss over the last few months. My race is white. I do not smoke or drink. My current height is 5'6" and my weight is 145. No history of radiation therapy. My diet varies, but is high in processed/ fast foods.
Thank you for your help!
Chances of malignancy are highly unlikely
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for getting back with the answers.
In your case chances for malignancy are highly unlikely as the only risk factor present is family history.. Although family history plays an important role and I usually recommend my patients for annual checkup in such cases as well and in your case as family history is +ve so I would recommend you same thing. Pain could be muscular. Now in your case colonoscopy and/or CT-abdomen could be of assistance. As you already have taken an appointment for a gastroenterologist so I would suggest you to relax and keep up with your daily routine. You can discuss these two modalities when visiting him. At this moment there is no particular need of taking any medication but I do recommend high fiber diet.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
