What Causes Ear Infection With Blood Discharge?
May be a community aquired MRSA
Detailed Answer:
Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic.
Usually MRSA infected patients in hospitals are contact isolated. But it is not possible at home. So there is a possibility that this ear infection could be because of MRSA.
Now a days community acquired MRSA is also on the rise and it could as well be a community acquired MRSA infection too. There is a fair chance that this might not be a MRSA infection too. You can send the pus from the ear for Gram stain and culture to be sure. If the Gram stain is showing gram positive cocci, it is an indirect evidence for MRSA infection and if the culture grows MRSA it is the gold standard definitive diagnosis. Further antibiotics can be decided based on culture and sensitivity report.
But what ever it is, it is there since XXXXXXX 30th, so it is 10 days now and it is definitely ear infection. He need antibiotics definitely. Current Bactrim (Co-Trimoxazole) and Ciporfloxacin do not cover MRSA.
Moreover it would have been very helpful if you had mentioned his age and weight.
I suggest whether it is MRSA or not...you take him to your paediatrician immediately as it is still there after 10 days of two antibiotics. Once it gets complication it can infect brain too.
Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are welcome. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish your kid good health.
Dr. Sumanth MBBS., DCH., DNB (Paed).,
I suggest you see your doctor with the report
Detailed Answer:
Hi...thanks for the trust in me.
I suggest you see your paediatrician as soon as possible with the culture and sensitivity reports. It is crucial as he is still running high temperature.
If you can get back to me with the report, I would be glad to help you in decision making, so that you can approach your paediatrician well informed.
Another off the discussion suggestion, your son is over weight for his age and suggest you request a work up for treatable causes of obesity when you meet your paediatrician.
I wish your kid a speedy recovery. If you need any future medical consultation and suggestions, I will be glad to help. You can approach me at the following link. Please find the link below.
