What Causes Egg Sized Lump On The Back Of Knee Area?
Baker's cyst or a lipoma or ??
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate the history:50 years /F - uncomfortable feeling and egg sized soft tissue lump at the top of the calf / in the back of the knee - normal doppler - MRI of the knee, normal - What to do now ???
I can think of the few diagnosis depending upon the history you have noted:
-Backer's Cyst; although connected to the knee by a very thin stalk, the MRI of the knee joint may be perfectly normal. It is bit difficult to understand why the MRI has not picked this up or not reported.
-Can be a lipoma
-Can be something that the General or Orthopedic Surgeon can tell on physical examination.
I would advise you the following:
-Since there is a definite lump, there is associated discomfort, the best way to get a proper diagnosis would a second opinion of a Orthopedic Surgeon. On physical examination He can certainly get a clinical diagnosis and investigate you further and advise accordingly.
I hope this answer helps you to get a proper diagnosis and treatment.
