What Causes Electric Shock Like Sensation In The Upper Leg?

I fell about 2 weeks ago on my left hind cheek and thought I was going to come unglued....
I cannot use my left leg to step on, or use to at all with out pain. I have been to the Dr. office and they have ruled out disc problems, However they want to do an epidural for pain relief. I was put on steroids, I am now on percocet and still have moderate pain. A week ago the pain was a 20 with every move that I made and I can safely say that it may now be a 4-5. We have turned the so called "corner" with pain. My thoughts are perhaps a torn muscle. It was a searing pain, like I would think of an electric shock going through your leg....
in my upper leg. When you look at both of my legs the left looks funnel shaped going larger at the top.
Compared to my right leg which is normal muscle tone. (My legs are in great shape).
What are your thoughts? They are also suggesting physical therapy. What about acupuncture?
It is helpful in providing short term pain relief i personally recommend hot gentle massaging and muscle relaxants as they are effective in most of cases .

Hi i am Dr Ahmed Aly
thanks for using HealthcareMagic site ,
I had gone through your question and understand your concerns ..
In my opinion i think it is a nerve injury or entrapment which in a lot of cases may show your symptoms of electric shock .
Neuropathic pain usually takes time to heel , from your given history your pain was diminished progressively in a week so this is a good sign . Acupuncture is said to provide short term relief from your low back pain .
You mentioned medications like ibuprofen , percocet , hydrocodone i may recommend hot gentle massage with topical anti-inflammatory gels , muscle relaxants , B 12 vitamin supplements is effective for most of cases .
Any further clarifications feel free to ask.
