What Causes Elevated ALT Levels While On Very Low Calorie Diet?
Question: My ALT liver enzyme is 107 - 1st time mildly elevated. All of my other blood test levels are normal. I have been on a very low calorie diet and injecting HCG. I have also started taking 1000 mg of magnesium every night. Could the elevated liver enzymes be a result of the VLCD, the HCG, the Mg, or all three? I'm not morbidly obese - 190 lbs....
Brief Answer:
Its not related to HCG OR Mg
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Elevated ALT may be due to other cause like fatty liver, viral hepatitis or some other autoimmune causes untill and other wise proved.
We need to think of all those things and treat only when there is persistent elevation of ALT.
Now if you are obese try to lose weight ,and cut down oily food with regular exercise should help you in reducing Alt levels.
Even after all the above still there is elevation of ALT levels we need to investigate for the cause.
Some time its idiopathic too
Hope this information helps you
thank you

So if I continued on another set of injections of HCG in a month - it should not effect the ALT levels? Basically, the weight loss should help?? I am getting new blood tests done in one month and will not be taking any new medications during that time. With all of my dietary changes the last month with loosing weight (have lost 16 lbs in a month), I too thought it could be idiopathic since everything else is normal. Thanks
Brief Answer:
you can continue with your injections
Detailed Answer:
