What Causes Elevated ASAT And ALAT Levels?
It is not the end of your life yet...
Detailed Answer:
Hi my dear,
Having ASAT and ALAT at your levels is not the end of the world. That does also not mean that you are going to die.
It means that there is something making your liver not working properly. We should find it. The best way is through abdominal ultrasound. If it is found that you suffer of hepatosteatosis (fatty liver), then, I suggest to :
- continue taking silymarin as recommended by my other colleague
- follow a healthy lifestyle regimen
- choose healthy foods to eat/drink
Next, if I was your caring doctor would go deeper to find out why you are having fatty liver. Is it because of your:
- diet?
- drinking alcohol?
- hepatitis problems?
- lack of physical activity?
As you are saying, your LDL is slightly elevated; however, I need to have the full lipid profile testing report before running into final conclusions.
Next, you are reporting a slightly elevated blood sugar level. In this case, I want to know when did you do the testing:
- was it fasting?
- after eating?
- random?
before concluding you might have diabetes or insulin resistance.
Lifestyle and diet changes can also help improve your lipid profile and glucose levels.

I started having these abnormal ASAT and ALAT results after I got the third shot of the hepatitis B vaccine in March 2001.
Here are my last test results as of XXXXXXX 4th 2014:
ASAT(GOT) 72.6 U/I; ALAT(GPT)145 U/I; Glucose( fasting) 6.32 mmol/l; Cholesterol 5.82 mmol/l; Triglycerides 2.06 mmol/l; HDL- cholesterol 0.9 mmol/l;
LDL- cholesterol 4 mmol/l.
I am 170cm. Is 165 lbs a healthy weight?
Further tests are needed...
Detailed Answer:
Hi back,
Thank you for sending in your lab reports.
I find your lipid testing results within normal range. With regards to your weight, it is also within normal range too.
At this point, I would ask to run further tests:
- for liver virus B, C ( HbsAg, Anti-HCV)
- immunological testing (ANA, AMA, SMA)
for further evaluation.
Hope it answered to your queries! Let me know if I can help you further!
