
What Causes Elevated Heart Rate During Physical Activity?

Question: I am 60 year old male and resuming a running ( jogging) program. I wear a heart rate monitor. My rate intermittently climbs to 200-205 beats per minute during workouts. It sustains for 5-10 minutes. I am still able to run, however. Is this dangerous? Should a normal heart beat this high. 7 years ago I received an ablation for A-fib. Small symptoms persist but are not lifestyle limiting. I take 80mg aspirin daily. I plan to visit my cardiologist ASAP.
