What Causes Episodes Of Migraine?
Profile: I am 40, Male, Married since 15 Years working as Software Engineer (Sitting job), No alcohol/ Coffee/ Tea/ Cigarette. No Acidity/ constipation/ Gas issue.
Problem : I have episodes of Migraine, induced mostly due to Odor, less sleep, tension, deviation from schedule, Empty Stomach. I am usually punctual in all my day to day work but when I don't comply with the schedule I get migraine.
Question I have:
For last many months I have seen that if I have migraine and I drink a soft drink (Coke/ Pepsi etc.) in a quick session and pass gas through burps, my pain is relieved and migraine is gone. However if I pass gas through farts or defecate during migration, the pain is elevated.
So this has become a regular practice for me during migraine to drink coke/ pepsi.
Could you please suggest what could be the issue and is it fine if I continue this way by drinking soft drinks? Or any better way.
Thanks,
XXXX
Avoid precipitating factors and take anti-migraine medicines.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.
The best and the positive part about your history is that you know the factors which cause your migraine.
Ok,it will probably be not of any harm,if you keep taking cold drinks to relieve your migraine. Its not unusual for migraine patients to have such specifications and variations. But then,it is not how migraine should be managed.
Migraine management follow simple rules:
1)Avoid precipitating causes.
2)Take anti-migraine medicines.Since you have frequent headache episodes, you will probably need both, prophylactic and episodic treatment.
Avoiding the causative factors is the only step towards cure, otherwise you always have to be on medicines.
Hope that I have answered your query. If you have some follow-up questions,I shall be glad to answer else, please close the thread-rate it and write a review as your rating will be of help to me.
