What Causes Excessive Burping In A Child?
Question: my son is six years old about three months ago he had a stomach flu, we all did. He started burping during that flu, and hasn't stopped since. I ask him if it burns and he says its hot. I'm not sure if its dietary because since we are vegetarians he has eaten a lot of starch so I have tried putting him on a probiotic. Or else I thought it could be that he's just constantly swallowing air, but I know that he is annoyed by his own burping so its not intentional. I was wondering your thoughts

Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone carefully through your query. It is apparent that your child has aerophagia. This is just a jargon to indicate that the child is taking much air when he is ingesting (swallowing, sucking, taking with food etc.). The air naturally wants to escape and ultimately does so in the form of burps (possibly involuntary).
The following steps would help in reducing it:
* He needs to feed slowly, chewing his food properly.
* Fennel seeds, anise, asafetida, mint, ginger and cardamom are known to reduce belching and may be tried.
*You have done the right thing by giving probiotics. You may also give curd or yogurt.
