What Causes False Positive For Alcohol In A Drug Test While On Keflex?

Question: Hello, I am currently taking Keflex for an ear infection (have been taking since Monday, XXXXXXX 23). I'm also abstinent from alcohol however the EtG test that I took this afternoon showed up positive for alcohol. I have not had a drink in 3 weeks and am wondering if this antibiotic could have an effect on my test. Very concerned because I know these tests are reliable and can't think of any other substance that would have had an effect. Regards, XXXXXXX
Brief Answer:
no, but the alcohol could
Detailed Answer:
The EtG test is a bit overly sensitive. It tends to overly detect.
There's a ton of things that have alcohol in them. The test tends to be positive or negative and small amounts of alcohol (hand sanitizer, mouthwash, aftershave, cold medicines) can trigger it. Keflex. Nuh uh.
On the other hand. a Yeast infection after keflex WILL show up as alcohol. so, yeah, indirectly it often DOES.
