What Causes Fatigue And Reservedness While On Hydrocodone?

default
Posted on Wed, 20 Jul 2016
Question: Was on hydrocodone 10.5 for a year and have taken hysingla for almost a month. Seems to control pain about as well, but feel tired and mostly emotionless almost all the time. Is there reason for the difference?

Didn't feel tired and unemotional on the hydrocodone, for some reason the hysingla does this. I really like the once a day prescription but no energy, just want to lay down and sleep. The first script was free but afraid the follow ups will be very expensive. My insurance won't cover the hydrocodone, but it's not that expensive, do you happen to know difference in cost?

Brief Answer:
well.....

Detailed Answer:
they are the same chemical--hydrocodone. The hysingla is different only by how the hydrocodone is released (it is a long acting drug). So, a reaction to hydrocodone, like an allergy would be expected to be identical in both. The amount of milligram a day certainly can be different. At more narcotic per day, one would be expected to have more narcotic effect, one of which is sedation/dulling/nodding off. So, if it is more drug there will be more effect even if it is the same drug.

And there are many reasons why someone could become "tired and emotionless". Depression as an adjustment disorder with depressed mood is quite common and a common response to a new illness or condition or debility. Of course physical reasons, (bladder infection, a cold, heart disease, low testosterone, anemia, low thyroid, many many others can also do this).

Brief Answer:
a lot

Detailed Answer:
hydrocodone is inexpensive. Unlikely to be 50 a month and more likely to be half of that. Any new long acting narcotic is quite expensive. Usually it is about that much Per Day.

The total milligrams a day is an important parameter both for the cost and for the comparison of the two pills (if the total is different per day, that is a likely explaination for any difference in effect). Otherwise there are a lot of possibilities for why one feels different than the other. The time course/profile of drug level in the blood is going to be very different between the two. The relationship between those and pain. The effect of damping down pain and sleep/rest is going to be different. Those are guaranteed to be different. How tolerant you get to the drug is probably going to be different. The psychological effect of having a pill you can take when you want may also change the experience, as will the different time courses of the drug in the blood stream.
