What Causes Fatigue, Low Energy, Leg Pain And Hair Loss During Menopause?
Question: I am 56 year old, female. height 4'11'', weight 54 kgs. Stopped menstruating 4 years back.
For the last two years, I had been feeling very lethargic, low energy levels, leg pains, hair loss etc. Recently I got thyroid tests done. My T3 = 1.25 ng/mL, T4 = 9.85 mug/dL and TSH = 5.76 mIU/L. An
Anti-TPO test indicated 264 IU/ML. My doctor prescribed Thyobuild 50 one tablet a day. Although my leg pains have come down significantly, I feel my stomach bloated all the time. I feel very uncomfortable with this. Is my dosage alright? I have no diabetes problem. My lipid profile indicates, S. Triglycerides = 190 mg/dl. S. Cholesterol 194 mg/dl.

Brief Answer:
Please recheck thyroid function and adjust dose
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM. I have gone through the question and understand your concerns.
The usual starting dose is around 25 to 50 mcg. After 6 weeks of treatment ( earlier if you are uncomfortable) do a free T4 and TSH. Based on that report you can decrease or increase the dose.
The cholesterol will come down once thyroid hormone replacement is stated. so you can repeat the tests after normalising thyroid function.
Hope I have answered your questions. If you have any further queries I will be happy to help you

I started the thyobuild 50 medication one week back. From then I feel a bloated feeling in my stomach and feel very full even without eating. Is it because of the medication?
Should I reduce my dosage to Thyobuild 25 and see for 6 weeks as my Tsh is not very high (5.76) although Anti TPO is little high (264 iU/ML). Kindly advice on this point.

Brief Answer:
You should decrease the dose to 25 mcg
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
The TSH as you said is not very high. Though the antibodies are high, we treat based on TSH and T4 values. These symptoms are seen as a side effect of thyroid medications. The dose can be decreased to 25 mcg. If the TSH is still high after 6 weeks, you can go back to 50 mcg.
