What Causes Feeling Of Food Stuck In Throat While Eating?

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Oct 2015
Question: sometimes when I am eating, usually at the beginning of a meal, the food does not seem to go all the way down and seems to stop a bit before my stomach. I start to burp and sometimes it will lead to me throwing up. Other times it will tend to go away and the rest of the meal is fine. I don't know if I am not chewing those first few bites well enough or what???

Brief answer....need to be investigated
Detailed answer...
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
Your symptoms suggest that you may be suffering from achlasia of esophagus ( food pipe )
Normally muscles and nerves present in your food pipe are responsible for contraction and propulsion of food downwards towards your stomach.
In achlasia muscles and nerves of esophagus and the valve between esophagus and stomach gets affected resulting in slight stagnation of food.
This can be easily diagnosed by getting barium swallow and GASTROSCOPY done.
You must consult a gastroenterologist for the examination and investigations to find the exact cause.
Once the cause is found ,you can be easily treated.
I hope it helps, however you are most welcome to revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks
