What Causes Fever After DPT Vaccination?
My 5.5 year old daughter had her DPT vaccination on Oct 1st afterwhich she had fever which lasted for 7 whole days. We had her blood checked as advised and the platelets count shows as adequate. Is this normal? Do we need to do anything to get the count up? She look like she's losing weight because she didn't eat properly during that period and has been quite fussy with food. Do you suggest we give her any vitamins so she can regain and also be able to eat like she used to? or if you suggest a diet plan for her. Thank you in advance.
Do not worry
Detailed Answer:
Hi
I understand your concerns but don't worry. The most likely reason for 1 week illness following vaccination is concurrent viral illness. There is absolutely no need to repeat the test if she is no more febrile or symptomatic.
For improving her appetite, you may start Syp. Bevon or Becosule. This can be given for 2-4 weeks. It will help her recover faster along with boosting appetite.
Her diet should include at least 3 proper healthy and well timed meals along with 2-3 snacks. Avoid junk foods, caffeinated beverages, cold drinks, excess chocolates and sweets.
Include a healthy balanced diet including cereals, pulses, meat (if non vegetarian), eggs, fruits, vegetables, dry fruits esp. Almonds and apricots, dairy products. Give plenty of water and fruits instead of plain juices.
Hopefully it will be of help.
Take care
