torn retina

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You are concerned about having floaters in your eye after a fall. These floaters seem like strings that go floating by. Floaters could be a sign of a detached retina. A detached retina can be cause by a fall or trauma or they can happen spontaneously. To determine if you have a detached retina you will need to be seen by an ophthalmologist. They will dilate your eye and then take a scope to look inside and see if you have a detached retina. If you have a detached retina they will use a laser to seal the tear. This is all painless and can be done in the office.

If it is not a detached retina then it is just a regular floater. Floaters are normal and become more pronounced as we get older. There is nothing that can be done for floaters. They are also not associated with any disease

In summary
1. possible detached retina
2. seek ophthalmology for evaluation
3. treat retina detachment with laser
4. rest
5. possible floater normal with no additional treatment

I hope I answered your question. Please contact us again with any of your medical concerns or questions.
