What Causes Flushed Look On Face In The Morning?

Question: Is there any reason to be concerned? I'm 55 yr old female menopause since age 37, most every day I wake up my face is flushed
This has been causing my husband to think I'm mad or upset over something and is causing marital problems as well. I just want it to stop.

Brief Answer:
hormone replacement therapy especially Estrogen replacement
Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome
I appreciate your concern
Hot flashes are common and troublesome effects of menopause in many women. they are vasomotor symptoms and hormone replacement therapy especially Estrogen replacement remains the most effective method for relief from hot flashes as well as genitourinary atrophy and dyspareunia ( painful intercourse ) associated with menopause. The lowest dose start and shortest duration of therapy should be used as a guideline in consult with your doctor.
Let me know if you have any query.
wishing you best of health
thanks

I have been on HRT for 18 years, it's not like the hot flashes it's just when I get up out of the bed my face turns blood red.
Brief Answer:
Workup required to determine cause
Detailed Answer:
Hello again ,
If the flushing occurs despite being on HRT, then its a sign for concern and the cause must be ruled out via a proper workup.
Triggers for the flushing if any, should be identified and avoided. These include sun and heat exposure , red wine, cocoa use, chilis, cheeses, chocolate, caffeine , peanuts, drugs among others.
carcinoid syndrome, may cause the redness and flushing of the face. Its a dry flushing without any sweating , usually. This is due to a tumor in the lungs or Gastrointestinal tract .A urine test, 5-HIAA is often applied to diagnose carcinoid syndrome. Imaging , endoscopy and biopsy may also be required.
Rosacea ,Irritant contact dermatitis, adult acne ,Excessive alcohol intake and High Blood Pressure can also present with facial flushing as described by you.
Treatment would depend upon the cause of your symptoms, in consult with your doctor.
Let me know if you require any clarification.
Thanks.
