What Causes Foul Smelling Loose Stool With Stomach Pain While On Levofloxacin?
Suggestive of antibiotic associated loose motions.
Detailed Answer:
Hi & Welcome.
I can understand your concern for the foul smelling loose stools with stomach pain. It seems to be due to antibiotic (Levofloxacin) associated changes in the composition and function of the intestinal bacterial flora.
The use of certain antibiotics like Levofloxacin disturbs the normal beneficial bacteria in your digestive tract and increase the number of illness-causing bacteria.
Had you been my patient I would have advised you to take Probiotic (which contain normal beneficial bacteria) in the form of Cap Bifilac three times daily. It is effective in preventing and treating loose motions associated with the use of Levofloxacin.
Beside Bifilac capsules, you need to
1. Take plenty of oral fluids, juice, avoid solid foods
2. For stomach pain take Pantoprazole tablet one hour before breakfast.
3. If the symptoms do not improve, kindly visit your treating physician for further evaluation and may require to take an alternate antibiotic or metronidazole tablet to reduce the frequency of the loose stools.
Hope the suggestions given above could be useful.
