What Causes Frequent Bowel Movement With Abdominal Cramps After Taking Looz?
Question: Hi Doc. I had taken some antibiotics which resulted in a 'sleepy colon'.....so while the pressure and urge was there, the bowel movement would not happen. As a result, my physician prescribed 30 ml of Looz which I took last night. While today morning it again resulted in the sleepy colon acting up again but post that I am required to visit the toilet for a BM every one hour or so and I have abdominal cramps. This has also resulted in continuous anal pain. Any suggestions?
Brief Answer:
Could your share the name of the antibiotic
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear.
Thanks for giving me an opportunity to address your query.
Can you provide more details about your condition so that I am better able to help?
I would like to know the antibiotic name/composition which was prescribed.
May I know reason for being prescribed?
Since how long have you been taking these meds?
Are you on you normal diet?
Were your bowels regular before this episode?
Do you have any previous history of constipation?
Hope you shall share the information soon.
Awaiting your reply.

I had taken the antibiotic Taxim OZ on account of some pain in my testicles.
I had taken the medication for only 2 days.
As indicated, I am on diet now of light food and fruits and curds.
Yes, my bowels were normal before this.
I have had constipation once earlier when I have taken an antibiotic but not otherwise.
I have stopped this medication last 4 days back but continue to have anal pain for a few hours after a BM and also see some traces of blood in the stools.
Could this be piles or an abscess in the rectum? If so, what medication do I take and any diet recommendations?

Brief Answer:
Suspect Anal fissure
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear. Thanks for writing me back.
Cefixime in Taxim Oz can cause constipation as a side effect in quite a few.
Bleeding due to piles or hemorrhoids is always painless.
I were to suspect anal fissure.Rectal abscess is less likely.I would examine local area to rule out the same and plan further management.
Advise plenty of oral fluids.I am glad that you have been having fruits.Vegetables and Psyllium husk fibre/wheat biscuits add plenty of fibre to your diet, form bulk of your stool and ease the bowel movement.
Avoid fatty/oily/spicy foods.
Hope this answers your query.

I have a history of fistula in ano.....past 3 years or so. Though for quite some time I had great relief from homoeopathic medication. Would that be acting up because of the hard stools stretching the colon? Post the constipation, I now have anal pain during and till 5-6 hours of a BM.
Any suggestions please esp to relieve the pain and have a long term solution to the fistula in ano?
Any suggestions please esp to relieve the pain and have a long term solution to the fistula in ano?
Brief Answer:
Prefer excision of the fistula
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear. Thanks for writing me back.
Pain due to the hard stools stretching the colon is transient and you normally get relieved once there is a complete bowel movement. Was the bowel movement complete?Do you still have any abdominal discomfort after passing the stool?
Since the pain lasts even after the bowel movement for quite sometime I were to suspect infection/inflammation of the anal fistula.Have you noticed any discharge(pus) in the stools?
Since homeopathic medicine affords a temporary relief, I would always prefer excision of the fistula(tract) which is the standard of care. This avoids the sepsis(spread of infection to the blood) in the future.
Until then you may take analgesics (Tab Ibuprofen 400mg twice daily afterfood) to relieve your pain. Warm sitz bath are extremely useful.
You may consult a surgeon to plan for surgery.
Hope this answers your query.
You may ask any further question if you have.
