Question: I have 13 mm XXXXXXX gallstone? Is it possible to avoid surgery or any remedies to dissolve it? my physician is giving me udiliv tablet?

1. A single XXXXXXX gall stone measuring up to 10 mm in diameter which is not causing any symptoms pf biliary obstruction can be left without any treatment and is seen in approximately 10 percent of population.
2. Since your stone is 13 mm in size therefore it is an indication of surgical treatment, especially if you are getting pain in right upper abdomen regularly.
3. Udiliv contains Ursodesoxycholic Acid which is a bile acid which reduces amount of cholesterol and also dissolves cholesterol in stones.
4. If you have just started taking udiliv then after taking it for a month or two please get liver function tests done to make sure it is normal.
5. In case you want to avoid surgery immediately then you can get another ultrasound scan done after 6 months and see if the stone has reduced in size. If the stone becomes bigger then you require surgery.
6. Diet control and reducing fats and oils in foods helps prevent gall stones.
7. Fasting also causes gall stones and it is recommended that you have meals on time and avoid do fasting.
