Question: Every morning, when I wake up, my left eyeball is gray in color. It's definitely noticeable in difference of color from my right eye. Can you tell me what this can be caused from?

Brief Answer:
Most likely genetical.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for posting the query.

Eyeball color, specifically the color of the irises, is determined primarily by the concentration and distribution of melanin. The affected eye may be hyperpigmented (hyperchromic) or hypopigmented (hypochromic). In humans, usually, an excess of melanin indicates hyperplasia of the iris tissues, whereas a lack of melanin indicates hypoplasia.

Heterochromia is a difference in coloration, usually of the iris but can include the full ball.Heterochromia is a result of the relative excess or lack of melanin (a pigment). It may be inherited, or caused by genetic mosaicism, chimerism, disease, or injury.

Eye color develops during the first few months after birth, with the levels of the pigment melanin determining how dark eyes will become. The less melanin expressed in the iris, the lighter a person's eyes look, and vice versa.

So this is something which depends on your genetics. However please enclose 2 comparative clear photos so that i can have a look over the problem.

Regards.

I'm sorry. Maybe I wasn't specific enough. The gray color is in the whites of my eyeball, not the iris. This discoloration started about 2 weeks ago.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
Please get you serum bilirubin checked.
Trauma of the eye ball can also lead to this problem.
Please attach photos of both eyes so that i can give you further advice.
Thanks
